Gaby collects nothing.

Everything — your progress, your preferences, your voice — stays on your device. The app makes no network requests at all: no accounts, no analytics, no tracking, and no servers of ours for your data to reach.

1. The short version

Gaby is an offline Spanish practice app. Everything it says to you is authored text that ships inside the app, and everything you say is checked on your own device. We do not have a backend, we do not have user accounts, and we never receive your answers, your voice, or any personal information. Because we collect nothing, there is nothing for us to sell, share, or lose.

2. Information we collect

None that leaves your device. Gaby does not collect, transmit, or store any personal data on any server we control. We have no analytics SDKs, no advertising SDKs, and no third-party trackers.

The following data is created and stored only on your device (in the app's local storage / iOS UserDefaults), and is removed when you delete the app:

Your progress — which situations and lessons you have completed, and at which level.
Preferences — chosen voice, speaking rate, theme, and reminder settings.

None of this is ever sent off the device by Gaby.

3. Microphone and speech recognition

Gaby asks for microphone and speech recognition access so you can practice speaking Spanish. Gaby requests on-device speech recognition (requiresOnDeviceRecognition), so your spoken audio is transcribed locally on your iPhone. Your voice is not recorded to a file, is not sent to the developer, and is not sent to any server we operate.

Speech recognition and text-to-speech are provided by Apple's operating-system frameworks. Their use is governed by Apple's Privacy Policy.

4. Translation

When you turn on translations, Gaby uses Apple's on-device Translation framework to translate between Spanish and your language. Translation runs locally; the developer receives nothing.

5. There is no AI language model

Earlier versions of Gaby downloaded a ~1.8 GB language model from Hugging Face on first launch. That is gone. Gaby ships no model, downloads nothing, and runs no inference of any kind. Every Spanish sentence and every correction in the app is authored text that ships inside the app bundle.

If you used an affected version, the downloaded model was stored in your app's cache and is removed when you update or delete the app.

6. Notifications

If you enable practice reminders, Gaby schedules local notifications on your device. Reminder text is generated on-device. No notification data is sent to a server.

7. Network use

Gaby makes no network requests. The app contains no networking code and needs no connection to do anything it does. It works with the device in aeroplane mode.

The only network activity you may observe is Apple-managed downloads of on-device speech and translation assets, requested by iOS itself rather than by Gaby. There is no telemetry, no analytics, and no background data collection.

8. Data sharing

We do not share, sell, rent, or disclose your data to anyone, because we do not collect it. There are no third-party data recipients.

9. Children's privacy

Gaby does not collect personal information from anyone, including children. All conversational content in the app is written by a person and fixed at release — there is no generated content.

10. Your control and data deletion

All data Gaby creates lives on your device. To delete it, delete the app — this removes your progress and preferences. There is no server-side copy to request. You can also erase everything without deleting the app: Settings → Erase all data and start over (the gear in the top-right of any tab).

11. This website, and the app

Everything above describes the Gaby app, which collects nothing and makes no network requests. This website is separate, and it is measured.

These pages use GoatCounter, an open-source, privacy-focused analytics tool, to count how many people visit and which pages they read. It sets no cookies, records no personal information, does not track you across sites, and is not used for advertising. Your IP address is not stored — it is combined with your browser's user agent and a salt that changes regularly, hashed, and used only to avoid counting the same visit twice. The quiz answer pages also carry a YouTube video. It is not loaded when the page opens — you see a placeholder drawn by the page itself, and nothing is requested from Google unless you press play. If you do, the video is embedded through youtube-nocookie.com, YouTube's privacy-enhanced mode, and from that point Google's own terms apply: see Google's Privacy Policy. If you never press play, no request ever reaches them.

None of this touches the app. Installing Gaby sends nothing to this website, and visiting this website tells us nothing about your use of the app.

12. Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, we will update the effective date above and post the revised policy at the same URL. Material changes will be reflected in a future app update.
